Jigs and Fixtures
Jigs and fixtures are used to position, hold, protect and organize tools, components and subassemblies at all stages of the manufacturing process. Jigs and fixtures are commonly fabricated by machining metal, wood or plastic but can equally be 3D printed. Their importance in the manufacturing process is significant since they impact the speed, efficiency and quality of the process.
When jigs and fixtures are manufactured in-house, it can tie up machine tools used for production work. When the work is subcontracted, lead times can be excessive so using in house 3D printing provides an alternative option for production that means that you stay in control of the process, the lead times and the quality.
